Pakyong to come under Tourism Master Plan

Consultants inspect proposed tourism sites


PAKYONG, November 27: Tourism prospects of Pakyong Subdivision was today discussed during the Tourism Master Plan coordination meeting held between the Senior Consultant of Master Consult Services Private Limited, Singapore, Teo Puay Kim, officials from Sikkim Tourism Department, TAAS president, TAAS districts presidents of North, East and West, other government officials and local gentries, Panchayats, representatives from NGOs and the general people.

At the outset, BB Gurung of Kartok, Namcheybong read out the proposal letter of Tourism Master Plan of Pakyong sub-division including three adjoining constituencies namely Namcheybong, Gnathang- Machong and Rhenock which was later presented to the Singapore Consultant.

Mr. Teo Puay Kim while explaining the concept of preparing Tourism Master Plan through a PowerPoint presentation said: “I am very happy to come here and interact with the people of Pakyong to sort out the issues related to tourism development in Sikkim.” He further said that the construction of the airport at Pakyong will definitely help improve inflow of international tourist to the State and that public participation was the mantra to attract more tourists.

Speaking on the occasion, TAAS president Palzor Lachungpa said, people of Pakyong should focus on quality tourist rather than quantity while taking the advantage of the upcoming airport.

Later in the group discussion, tourism-related issues and development in area raised by the public were answered by the consultant.

The tourism team also inspected some of the proposed tourism sites like Christian Tar, National Research Centre for Orchids, Monasteries and Airport construction site.
