Namchi (IPR)April 2: A day long introductory workshop on Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP) for IWMP 1 and IWMP 2 in South Sikkim was held in the community hall of South District headquarters.


The workshop which was organized by South Wildlife Division of Forest Environment &Wildlife Management Department saw M.P Lok Sabha Mr. P.D Rai gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest along with Minister for Building and Housing Department Mrs. Tilu Gurung as Guest of Honor.

During this day long workshop 11 Micro Watershed committees of RoluKhola Watershed (IWMP 1) and Seti Khola Watershed (IWMP 2) which has 5 GPUs each and 33 and 27 villages under them respectively, received Social Assets like Public Addressing System, Portable Generators, Food warmer, tables, chairs and tents under Entry Point Activities (EPA) from the Chief Guest Mr. P.D Rai.

Similarly,Mrs. Tilu Gurung the guest of Honour for the programme gave away the cheques under EPA to concerned JFMCS /EDCs of South and West District.

Speaking on the occasion M.P Mr. P.D Rai urged the beneficiaries to use the money given to them responsibly and contribute completely to the works going under their watersheds.

Mr. Rai also informed that these sorts of workshops and distribution of Social Assets only goes on to show how the state of Sikkim has progressed and flourished under the stewardship of the Chief Minister Mr. Pwan Chamling.

Earlier in the workshop DFO Wild Life South Mr. Nishcal Gautam made a power point presentation on the workshop, highlighting IWMP 1 and IWMP 2.

The workshop also saw Ms. Bharati C.C.F( Territorial) address the gathering.

Area MLA Mr. Vinod Rai was also present during this day long workshop.
