Gram Shree Mela inaugurated by Commerce Minister Neeru Sewa
Ten days long Gram Shree Mela was inaugurated by the Minister for Industry Ms. Neeru Sewa at Directorate of Handloom & Handicraft (DHH) complex on 23rd October. The mela is organized by Sikkim Rural Development Agency, Rural Management Development Department.
The Project Director Mr. L.B Chettri in his welcome address spoke of importance of the mela which has been organized to encourage various Self Help Groups (SHGs) of Sikkim.
Minister Ms. Neeru Sewa in her address said that the objective of the government is to encourage Self Help Groups of the state in order to enhance the economic status of the poor people of rural areas. She said that the State government’s target of making total poverty free state by 2013 will only be possible by the support of each and every people of Sikkim. Ms. Sewa also appealed the members of SGHs to work hand in hand with the government to achieve success in the mission of the government to make the State totally poverty free by increasing the economic condition of the people.
She also suggested to SHGs to become an inspiration to the unemployed and common people through their experiences. The Minister also advised SHGs on price control and quality of their product. She visited all of around forty stalls of SHGs from every corner of the State. Two members of SHGs shared their experiences and also thanked the government for providing such type of pro-poor supportive programme through SRDA. (IPR)
