SIBLAC Appeals

source: VoiceofSikkim:

27 June, New Delhi: “On this youthful phase of age for Sikkim when it turns thirty five years as part of India, it really becomes a moment for the Indian Government to reconcile itself of the commitments made to the Sikkimese people on the eve of merger while more significant for the Sikkimese politicians realise and analyse the losses and gain that we so attain during this many years.

I appeal to the Government of India as well all the political parties and politicians of Sikkim that all of our political concern should revolve in addressing and realising four basic issues which is crippling Sikkim and the Sikkimese in truer sense. As such we must strive to attain the following:

1. Political protection of the indigenous Bhutia Lepchas of Sikkimese origin;
2. Restoration of lost political rights of the Nepalese of Sikkimese origin;
3. Appropriate delivery of justice to our Sikkimese Indian Old Business community members; and
4. Attaining of all the above through Article 371 F of the Indian Constitution.

It is however very unfortunate that owing to the all time negligence of our own
politicians driven by their own vested interests, these most grave issues should remain ignored till date. However, at this hour of political threat to all the Sikkimese people appearing like anything, I call upon the Government of India to address upon these must burning problems at the earliest before it is too late. I also call upon the Sikkimese politicians, intellectuals and beurocrats and civil society to come forward, ignoring their political and personal interests, in the best and timely interest of Sikkim and its posterity.

India Government must realise at the earliest that Sikkim’s sensitive location having international borders with China, Nepal and Bhutan followed by political unrest at its southern border cannot afford such negligence for too long.
Sikkim has seen much of social bi-trifurcation of societies, unprecedented corruptions, etc. Let’s stop it here now and dedicate ourself for a greater cause and which is the call of the hour.

I once again appeal to the Government of India to be more serious this time while dealing with Sikkim and its long-neglected genuine issues before any dire consequences unfold. In the name of massive developmental projects and funds which have enhanced only a handful of influential personalities economically, India Government must realise that the same could not sabotage the Sikkimese aspirations for ever”.
