On
the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, His Excellency the Governor of Sikkim, Shri
Balmiki Prasad Singh has extended his warm greetings to the people of Sikkim.
His
Excellency said, “Gandhi Jayanti is a special occasion for every Indian. On
this day was born this great soul under whose leadership India achieved freedom
from colonial rule. The light of freedom that Gandhiji lit moved fast and
liberated countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
The
rise of terrorism and fundamentalism in recent times makes the teachings of
Mahatma Gandhi more relevant. The world needs to follow the path of truth and
non-violence, peace and compassion that Mahatma Gandhi preached and practised.
No wonder the United Nations has resolved to celebrate this day as the International Day of Non-Violence.
On
this occasion of Bapu’s birth anniversary, let us dedicate ourselves towards
spreading and working on his message of peace and to serve the people,
particularly the poor, weak and needy.”-HE said.
