Release: Exchange Programme of Sikkim Studies at Jamia takes off
The
Sikkim Studies Programme of the Centre for North East Studies, Jamia Millia
Islamia is supported by the Government of Sikkim and was launched in April 2011
by Shri. Pawan Chamling, Chief Minister of Sikkim. The Sikkim Studies
Programme has envisaged an Exchange Programme to facilitate researchers from
Sikkim to come to Jamia.
The
first three-month fellowship of the Exchange Programme has been awarded to Mr.
Jayanta Madhb Tamuly, a PhD Candidate at the Department of Peace and Conflict
Studies and Management, Sikkim University, for his proposal “Damming/Damning
Teesta: A Study on the Social and Environment Issues”. He will work under Prof.
Sanjoy Hazarika at the Centre for North East Studies, Jamia Millia
Islamia.
Mr.
Tamuly joined on 1 May 2012 and will be primarily conducting library related
research at various libraries as well as interviewing stakeholders, media and
water specialists etc. The focus of Sikkim Studies Programme includes among
others: Green Governance, including Climate Change and its impacts; Social
Stress and Coping Mechanisms; Borders and International Trade and Look East
Policy.
