Sikkim Manipal holds fourth graduation

 August 27  2012

The Indian University, Sikkim Manipal, which opened a campus in Uganda about five years ago, held its fourth graduation ceremony issuing bachelors and masters degrees as well as post graduate diplomas in various fields of business study to some 268 students.

Vice President Edward Ssekandi presided over the ceremony in Kampala on Friday. The graduates were from the International School of Business and Technology (ISBAT).

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Varghese Mundamattam, the university’s principle director noted that, the awards conferred are internationally competitive and will help the graduates vie in any global environment.”

He also added that all programmes offered at the university are directly accredited to Sikkim Manipal University in India which comparatively puts them ahead not only in Uganda but also globally.

ISBAT currently runs alongside Sikkim Manipal University-Uganda, although the administrators announced a plan to establish an independent campus. Professor Ramesh Murthy represented the mother institution from India.

Bachelor of Science in Information Technology passed out the highest number of students followed by others like Commerce in Information Systems.

According to Milka Singh, the academic registrar, the university has both local and international modes of assessments which are approved by the Ministry of Education, although all admissions are approved in India. “This means that graduates are competing auspiciously with our affiliates elsewhere,” he said.
Uganda has about 30 private and seven public Universities.//www.monitor.co.ug
