Hologram drive to fetch Rs 55 crores

Hologram drive to fetch Rs 55 crores

Every alternate month we hear people dying due to intake of harmful alcohol or rather duplicate alcohol. Such beverages are made up of harmful substances which are cheap and are very injurious for lives as it can kill a person instantly after intake. The consumers of such products are unknown of the fact that they are being sold such harmful products as they cannot differentiate between the genuine and duplicate, since they all look alike.

In order to control and stop the duplication of such products the Department of Excise has come up with a solution that all the liquor bottles should contain holograms certified by the department. The local product contains a red colored hologram and the products produced outside state bear a green hologram and an amount of Re 1.90p/- per bottle will be charged for the hologram by the department. Though this rule had been introduced since 10th August 2010 but was strictly followed only by 31st October 2010 and the introduction of hologram was a much discussed topic for few days. But people are still unaware of the hologram and in order to save few penny purchase harmful liquor without hologram.

Preparation of liquor in the house and manufacturing and selling of duplicate liquor is an offence and should be reported immediately. This is something which cannot be taken lightly stated M.K. Pradhan Commissioner, Excise (Akbari) Department, Gangtok. Mr. Pradhan informed that the department of excise only focuses on liquor but the other part of illegal selling must be controlled by the public which he requested to support in banning harmful liquor circulation in state. The department expects to fetch Rs 55 corers from holograms.
