SIKKIM: Commercial para-gliding flights launched in Sikkim

Commercial para-gliding flights were introduced in Sikkim today as part of the tourism department’s mission to boost adventure tourism in the state.

As under the available infrastructure for para-gliding, the tourists may be able to take an aerial view of the breathtaking sights during three-to-five minutes flights between Thamidara village and Reshithang Sports Village in East Sikkim district, Tourism Secretary S S Bhaduria told reporters.

The tourism department has hired few trained pilots to run para-gliding flights and depending on the response from tourists, more pilots will be hired for the purpose, he said.

The department has developed additional infrastructure for adventure tourism in fields like trekking, boating, bungee jumping and mini-rock climbing, in Thamidara-Reshithang area near the state capital to woo tourists, the official said.
