CHAMLING LIST OUT PRIORITIES IN DEVELOPMENT

SIKKIM: CM lists out priorities for various departments “Develop a new thinking strategy and work culture”-Chamling


GANGTOK, July 08 (IPR): In the sequence of interacting with different State Government departments, Chief Minister Pawan Chamling held a coordination meeting with the departments of Land Revenue, Irrigation & Flood Control, Sikkim National Transport and Culture & Heritage at his office in Tashiling secretariat yesterday afternoon.

The departments were represented by their ministers, Dawchoo Lepcha and TT Bhutia along with the departmental heads and officials.

During the meeting with State Land Revenue and Irrigation & Flood Control department, Chief Minister suggested that the officers and engineers should develop a new thinking strategy and work culture. He directed that they should formulate a plan for development of the state of Sikkim utilizing all strength and technique for collecting funds from various funding agencies and its utilization. He suggested that estimates of any work should be passed accordingly through Gram Sabha to the approving authority and it should be result oriented.

Mr. Chamling further suggested working on small irrigation channels with proper site selection and verification of schemes by which the people would be actually benefited. He also suggested on river training schemes at the riverside towns like Rangpo, Singtam and Jorethang along with beautification and development of the place with pavements which would benefit not only the local people but attract tourists as well.

The Chief Minister directed the land revenue department for modification of revenue blocks as per the geographical classification with actual name and pronunciation. He further directed to empower the VLOs, preparation of brochure containing general information on Sikkim and also directed to notify the demarcating area and its uses. He expressed that the State is rich in biodiversity having six climatic zones which is a unique features of the State and it should be utilized by the people to project Sikkim in the world.

Similarly during the meeting with culture & heritage department, the Chief Minister directed to complete the ongoing work like Nepali Literary Cultural Centre and Srijunga Study Centre, giving a modern look by recollecting of culture and tradition. He stresses on paintings and write-ups in the wall of the Nepali Literary Cultural Center based on the life of a renowned poet of Nepali language Adi-Kabi Bhanubhakta Acharya. He also expressed his interest to build a museum and library in and around Gangtok.
The Chief Minister directed the department to give the follow-up in connection with the construction of Lepcha Stair to Heaven. He also directed to attach the senior artists of the department as an art teacher in different schools around Gangtok.

In the evening, the SNT secretary made a power point a presentation highlighting the function and the programmes of the department to Chief Minister at conference hall of Tashiling Secretariat.

After viewing the presentation, the Chief Minister directed the department for arrangement of providing a standard tourist van playing within tourist destination of Sikkim and modification of available buses. He also directed SNT Department to utilize all vacant land under its disposal especially the land situated at Siliguri and other places within Sikkim for generating more revenue for the State. He also directed to give taxi permit for the local youth of Sikkim and also directed the disposal of scrap and other unused materials as per the norms of the department. He said that SNT Department should become a symbol of the state providing good service and activities.

Advisors Bhim Dahal, RB Subba, KN Rai and Hisey Lachungpa also placed their suggestions to the department during the meeting.
