The Sikkim Online Gaming (Regulation) Act which seeks to tax online gaming in electronic and non-electronic formats will come to force from July 1 this year.
The State finance secretary has been appointed as the Authorized Officer for the objectives of the Act.
Online gaming through electronic or non-electronic formats will be taxed in order to generate revenue for the State with the implementation of this Act.
The Sikkim Online Gaming (Regulation) bill had been tabled by Chief Minister Pawan Chamling last year in June in his capacity as the finance minister. The bill which was passed by the House seeks to provide for the control and regulation of online gaming through electronic or non-electronic formats and to impose a tax on such games in the state.
