ALTERNATIVE HIGHWAY WORK TO BEGIN SOON

Gangtok , June 20 The construction of an alternative highway in land-locked Sikkim is expected to begin within the next six months, the state government said today.

Union Minister for Road, Transport and Highways Kamal Nath directed his officials yesterday to expeditiously start the ground work for construction of the alternative highway within the next six months, an official release said here.

The directive was issued after Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling urged Nath during a meeting in New Delhi to implement the sanctioned works for double laning of NH-31A and construction of the alternative highway.

The alternative highway will help ease the Himalayan state&aposs dependence on the existing lone highway
