‘Sikkim Tourism To Generate Economic Activities Of Rs 1500 Crore By 2020′

 Sikkim tourism will generate economic activities worth Rs 1500 crore per annum by  the year 2020 said sikkim tourism minister Sh  Shri Bhim Dhungel while speaking on the launch of 777 days of the incredible India Himalayas organized by ministry of tourism in hotel ashoka new delhi today .He said that economic activities worth Rs one crore was recorded under tourism trade in the year 1980 which was increased to 75 crore per annum in the year 2000 and 400 crore in the year 2010.and target has been fixed to generate economic activites of Rs 1500 crore by the year 2020. He said that  target has been fixed to attract one lakh international tourists  and 20 lakh domestic tourist in the state by the year 2020. He said that 12862 domestic and 2572 international tourist visited the state during the year 1980 which was increased to 170160 domestic and 8794 International tourist arrival in the year 2000 and added that 700011 domestic and 20757 international tourist have visited  the state in the year 2010.He said that  target has been fixed to attract one lakh international tourists  and 20 lakh domestic tourist in the state by the year 2020 He said that state govt has decided to promote the tourism activities by Opening more areas for domestic & foreign tourists, Opening New  Trekking  routes, Crafting  and enhancing major  tourist circuits and undertaking  aggressive  Marketing at Global markets.He told that budhist circuits are being developed to promote religious tourism in the state and added that several international renowned budhist institutions are popular among  the scholars from all over the world .
sikkim tourism minister Sh  Shri Bhim  Dhungel  said that Sikkim will be developed  the Principal Tourism destination in South and South-East Asia by the year 2015.
*He said that state govt has strengthened the tourism related infrastructure by opening various institutes and told that The Institute of Hotel Management, Sajong, The Food Craft Institute, Namchi, Indian Himalayan centre for Adventure & Eco-tourism, Chemchey are prime Tourism related Human  Resource Development institutes in the state . sikkim tourism minister Sh  Shri Bhim  Dhungel  said that state govt has set up Sikkim Eco tourism Direcotate to provide  top priority to
eco tourism in the state and added that eco  torism co-operative network has been established under the Sikkim Eco Tourism Council for conservation of environment and protect precious gift of nature in the himalayas .
He said that state govt has given Thrust Sector status to tourism in the sikkim to achieve highest  growth potential in this sector and ensure overall socio economic development in the state .He said that sikkim will be promoted as ultimate eco tourism destination in the country and added that home stay scheme has been launched in the state for providing clean and hygenic facilities to the tourists in homely atomosphere and added that  different communities with their diverse customs ,culture,traditions,cuisine,fairs and festivals offers a unique experience to the visitors with warm hospitality . He said that state govt is organizing events like Youth Adventure Festival,International Mountain Biking Expedition, International Para
Gliding Festivals to promote adventurous tourism in the state.
