Gangtok: More than seven lakh tourists including twenty five thousands foreign tourists, visited the small but beautiful state, Sikkim, during 2010, said Mr. SBS Bahadauria, Secretary, Tourism Department, Government of Sikkim on December 31. One lakh more tourists have visited the state this year, he informed.

Mr. L Rasaily, President, Travel Agents Association of Sikkim (TAAS) said that around three thousand tourists are visiting everyday the spots like Nathula, Baba Mandir, Tsomgo Lake in East and Lachen, Lachung, Chungthang and Yume-Samdong in North, Pelling and Bersey in West and Rabong and Mainam in South Sikkim. ‘The hotels in the state are having seventy percent occupancy at the moment, with the New Year knocking at the door, though it is also a lean period of tourism industry in Sikkim’ he informed. The fact illustrates that “Sikkim has become a tourist destination for national as well as international tourists”.
