Road Projects of Rs. 434 Crore for North East Region
The Minister of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Shri Bijoy Krishna Handique has approved road projects of Rs.434.23 Crores spanning the five states of Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Manipur and Mizoram as part of the ongoing 11th Plan Projects of the North Eastern Council (NEC).He informed that the said projects would boost connectivity between the states as well as connectivity within the states. He also said that the NEC is committed towards channelizing similar quantum of funds for improving the road sector in the Region.
The projects include;
a. Improvement of Jowai- Nartiang – Khanduli – Biathanlangsu road at an estimated cost of Rs. 138.36 Crores which will link a Assam and Meghalaya. The Assam portion is 59.55 kms at an estimated cost of Rs.71 Crores and the Meghalaya portion is 54.80 kms at an estimated cost of Rs.67.36 Crores. The date of completion for the project is March, 2014.
b. Construction and Improvement of Simchuthang – Pabong – Yangyang Road in Sikkim at an estimated cost of Rs.62.84 Crores and length 23 kms. The date of completion is March, 2013.
c. Improvement of Kangokpi – Tamei Road in Manipur at an estimated cost of Rs.87 Crores and length 70.25 kms. The date of completion is March, 2013.
d. Upgradation of Sherkhan Bhagabazar Road at an estimated cost of Rs.146.03 Crores and length 115.20 kms. The date of completion is March, 2014.
The expenditure for the above projects would be met from Plan Funds of NEC to the extent of 90% of the approved cost and 10% would be borne by respective State Governments. The Projects will be implemented by the Public Works Department of the respective state Governments. PIB
