Private investors should uphold and respect the MoU: Chamling




Gangtok, September 4: Sikkim is viewed as the most peaceful, steady and investor friendly State in the country. Sikkim can be tapped as an ideal base for manufacturing and distribution of products like spare parts for watches, mobile sets, etc that are high in demand today, said Pawan Chamling, the chief minister of Sikkim in a meeting matters concerning the Public Sector Undertakings in the State on Friday at his official residence Mintokgang.



He further stated that there is an urgent need to undertake a market survey and identify products which are in demand so that these PSUs can be revived and set to roll on the right track. These units should be consumer oriented and market survey will help in re-positioning these units properly. The top notch which includes both the legislators and the bureaucrats should work seriously and keep in mind the interest of the common masses while taking policy decisions. He also directed Minister for Commerce and Industries Department to initially explore the possibility of a joint venture with renowned private enterprises.



The Chief Minister also expressed that the private investors in Sikkim should uphold and respect the Memorandum of Understanding and provide employment opportunities to the local Sikkimise people only.

The Government has worked hard to usher in enough opportunities and other capacity building measures for skill manpower developments. And now, the sikkimese people should be aware and make themselves capable of availing these benefits. It is high time that self realization dawn on our youths and they grab these opportunities, he added.


The meeting was attended by Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, Advisors to the Government, Chairpersons SITCO, SPIL, GFPF and Sikkim Jewels. M.P. Lok Sabha P.D.Rai made a PowerPoint presentation on the four PSU in the State where he expressed various options for the restructuring of the PSUs.
