"I salute the state govt”: Sikkim Governor


Gangtok: Governor Mr. MK Narayanan in his address said, “I salute the state government for its imagination to construct such a beautiful tourism destination to cater to international tourists and for its dedication to the development of the state”.

He applauded the state government’s initiatives to promote tourism industry in the international market and said that he is deeply touched by the composite development activities of the state government.

Speaking on the occasion Chief Minister Dr. Pawan Chamling said, “Our dream is to make service sector in Sikkim the new profession of the new generation”. He further said,

“We also adopted the policy to harness our water resources to make it productive
and contribute to the overall hydro-power generating capacity of the country”.

Chief minister also mentioned the long pending demands of the State, namely,

(a) granting ST Seats to Limboo and Tamang communities;
(b) recognizing all the Sikkim Subject Certificate holders and their descendents as Scheduled Tribes;
(c) increase the total number of seats in the State Legislative Assembly to 40 seats;
(d) inclusion of Bhutia, Lepcha and Limboo languages in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution;
(e) granting of Central Income Tax exemption to the left-out communities who are in different walks of life.
