Sikkim MP awarded by alma mater

GANGTOK, January 5: Sikkim MP, Lok Sabha PD Rai is among the 50 illustrious alumni of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur to have been awarded with the prestigious IITK@50 award.

The results of the 50 awardees were announced on December 24 to mark the 50th anniversary or the golden jubilee celebration of the institute. Amongst the names that have been thrown up are of Narayana Murthy of the Infosys fame.
Mr. Rai, who is the only IIT/IIM graduate and the only one from IIT, Kanpur to have made it to the Lok Sabha attended a ceremony on the campus at Kanpur on January 3 to receive the award.

In a press release issued today, Mr. Rai has dedicated the award to the people of Sikkim. “He has understandably credited this award to the patience and support of his parents and family members. However, he publicly said that the credit must go to Pawan Chamling and the SDF party for giving him the opportunity to represent the people of Sikkim in the 15th Lok Sabha,” the release said.

The Sikkim Lok Sabha MP graduated from the IIT in 1976 with a first division in Chemical Engineering. He says that the Alma Mater award is perhaps a fitting recognition of his various successes in life.
