Casino: Journey of Sikkim towards self-reliance

Gangtok, June 25: Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling expressed hope that the Casinos figure high would help efforts to set Sikkim at self-reliance. Sikkim is passing through a promising phase from dependency to self-reliance both at the domain of physical and material needs.

Sikkim is the pioneering State in introducing on-land casino operations. With the passage of the Sikkim Casino Games (Control & Tax) Act of 2002, one Casino complex is already in operation in Gangtok and a few more applications are under consideration, he said. Addressing the Sikkim legislative Assembly session as the leader of the house Chamling said that this historic legislation had been conceived with a view to attracting investors to develop five star category hotels in the State.
