Tourism industry in the state is trying to reach to the entire state to develop the overall tourism infrastructure.
The State Government is also taking every possible initiative in making state a model and the best destination of tourist across the nation. Following this step various related associations like Travel Agent’s Association of Sikkim (TAAS), Sikkim Hotel and Restaurant Association (SHRA) and various stake holders involved in this sector are also putting every efforts in making this vision a success and simultaneously the youths and the people of the state are as well involved in marking responsible tourism in the state for which various awareness camps are being conducted in making the general public more hospitable towards this industry.
Apart from mobilizing tourist to the hot spots, the Tourism Departments and the travel agents are working on introducing various new concepts on tourism sector in the state like village tourism, pilgrimage tourism, home stays, eco-tourism, adventure tourism and many more.
As per the statistical data on tourist arrival in the state till the month of October this year, it is recorded as 597154 in case of domestic and international 16485, in comparison to last year’s data the inflow of domestic tourist around the year has been recorded to be 615628.
While speaking to the Secretary Tourism Department Mr. SBS Bhaduria, he said that the inflow of tourist in the state has increased many folds and by coming years the same would further increase as various programs and projects are under way and if the same are completed then the inflow would definitely hike. Without the data of the remaining two months that is of November and December the Department has recorded such a huge inflow hence this year it is expected that the number will cross an estimated 5 lac which will be the highest since 2005.

In regards to the domestic tourist the top seven states visiting Sikkim ranks as follows, West Bengal ranks the topping the list while second place is occupied by Maharastra, third position by Gujarat , fourth by Delhi, fifth by Uttar Pradesh and sixth and seventh position by Rajasthan, Orissa, Bihar and Jharkhand
