SIKKIM: Prof Lama to present Core and Lead India Paper in the 9th Forum of BCIM

Gangtok, January 17: The Vice Chancellor of Sikkim University (SU), Dr. Mahendra P. Lama will present the Core and Lead India Paper at the 9th Forum of Bangladesh, China, India and Myanmar (BCIM) scheduled to be held at Kunming, China from January 18- 19.

The press communiqué issued by SU mentions that the 9th Forum of BCIM on Regional Economic Cooperation will be participated by the high level delegations from all the four countries.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Lama will present the core and lead paper entitled “Cooperation in the BCIM Region: Rethinking Opportunities and Newer Approaches”. The Indian delegation will be leaded by Ambassador Eric Gonsalves, the release said.

It is to be mentioned that, the BCIM forum also widely known as Kunming Initiative was launched in 1999 as a measure of sub-regional cooperation and has so far held 8 meetings in various BCIM countries. The theme of the 9th Forum is “Multi Track Approach: Programmes for Cooperation” wherein the delegates and other representatives including from the private sector will discuss, economic cooperation, connectivity and socio-cultural exchanges among these four countries.

The Forum will be inaugurated by the Chinese minister Chang Guoping and would be attended by large delegations from the members’ countries including Qin Guanrong, Governor of Yunan province.
