42 year old Amar Subba made a Limca book of record in a solo marathon across the Himalayas.

For anti drug awareness, environment protection and for communal peace and harmony Amar Subba ran 450 km across the Himalayan belt. He started his marathon from his village Dharap on 17th January and ended at MG Marg Gangtok on 23rd Jan. On his way he crossed Pelling, Uttarey, Sopakha, Chewan bhanjyang, Sandalphu, Phalut,Hillay, Darjeeling, Siliguri, Teesta, Kalinpong, Rangpo, Pakyong etc.

When most of us were burrowed under quilt and having sweet dreams, Amar was having his run. Every day he starts running at 2 am in the morning and had rest only for 3-4 hrs. a day.

On his way he was challenged by the nature with -5 degree at some places, bandh called by GJM, shoes tore down completely, frequent cramps but nothing could flutter his attitude and passion to win.

On his achievement Raman says “I am an adventurous guy and always fascinated by the title of Iron Man. But I thought I need to do something extra. So idea of solo marathon came to my mind. Joined with the initiatives of environment, drugs, harmony and peace this marathon became my mission.

But 42 years is quite an age. Amar opines that his daily yoga and playing football comes handy in this task. But also mentions that he never took part in any running competition in his school days.

Raman was then motivated by his friends. “I always wanted to do something for my village, state and country. I also heard a lot about marathon achievements all over the world. So this way I attempted 450 km solo marathon.

Amar was received warmly at MG Marg by the people of Gangtok, many of them arriving much before to cheer him up. Felicitation programme was attended by the Sports minister N.K. Pradhan, Deputy Mayor of Gangtok, Shakti Singh and officials from Sikkim football association and others.
