State Excise Department introduces holograms for liquors
Gangtok, August 1: To bring about accountability and prevent illegal removal of liquors without payment of Excise duty, the State Excise (Abkari) Department has notified vide notification Nos 07/Ex (Abk), 08/Ex (Abk), 09/Ex (Abk) announcing that 1st August, 2010 shall be the effective date for implementation of affixation of holograms on liquor, beer bottles & cans manufactured and imported in the state.
With effect from 1st August, no liquor, beer bottles & cans shall be removed from the Distilleries, Breweries, and Warehouses of the importer without affixation of holograms, informed the Commissioner of the Department MK Pradhan.
The Hologram, he said, is being introduced to provide assurance about genuineness of the products, preventing the manufacture of spurious liquor, safe guarding health of consumers and others.
“The Public at large has also been informed that incase hologram has been affixed on the bottles and old MRP has been printed, then it is hereby allowed to sell the said bottle at printed MRP plus Rs 1.05 only”, he added.
The printing of the year 2010-11 is one of the distinct features of the hologram which can be perceived and shall give an assurance of duty paid genuine liquor products manufactured and imported within the state.
The hologram has five multi-colours and on tampering it will show only three colours; on peeling of the upper coating of the hologram the colour of the base shall automatically change, expressed the commissioner.
On the upper layer of the hologram, white circles resembling pearls will be visible. A red coloured slanting ‘SIKKIM’ will appear as mirror images and the code and serial number in black colour will appear in two lines. Also the signature of Excise Officer and the icon of Excise Department will be visible, it is informed
