Educatin should be socially relevant: Prof. Ramaswamy

GANGTOK: Eminent Professor and founder Director Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore, Padma Bhusan Prof. NS Ramaswamy has stressed that education should be indigenous and “socially relevant”. He was addressing the Principals’ Conclave held at the conference hall of Human Resource Development Department (HRDD), Gangtok on April 3.
Prof Ramaswamy gave various suggestions to HRDD for making the education more fruitful, socially relevant, interesting and useful for human kind. He said, “Hard working and teachers passionate in their jobs can make the education system fruitful with the government putting more efforts and allocating enough fund in the education sector.”
The conclave, named, Challenges in Primary, Secondary and Higher Education in Special Context of Sikkim and the Opportunities Ahead, was organized by the Eastern Institute for Integrated Learning in Management University (EIILM) Sikkim.
Secretary HRDD, Mr. R Telang, department officials, eminent educationists from different institutions, Principals of schools and colleges and officials from EILLM attended the conclave.
Prof Ramaswamy suggested that education should be vocational with privatization of the education sector, He stressed on education for those who have discontinued their schooling. Classroom teaching should be reality based and must be relevant with latest facilities, he said.
Education means building of good character of ethics and values with no negativity, he said. He also suggested better planning and proper implementation of developmental schemes for education in the state.
“India is a country of knowledge which always had provided solutions to various problems faced by the world”, he underlined. Secretary HRDD, Mr. Telang urged the organizing University to promote quality education so as to make every child of the state competitive. Pro Vice-Chancellor EILLM University, Prof OB Vijayan highlighted the activities of the University in line with the aims and policies of the state government to enable the students of Sikkim to achieve overall development. The conclave was also addressed by other educationists and experts, which was followed by a panel discussion on the topic of the conclave.
