Heritage management for Sikkim
Gangtok (IPR):Two days seminar on strategy for heritage management for Sikkim State was inaugurated by Mr. Sonam Gyatso Lepcha, Minister for Cultural Affair and Heritage Department (CA&HD) in a local hotel , here in the capital on 15th March 2010. The seminar was organized by Department of Culture and Heritage, Government of Sikkim.
Addressing the Seminar, Mr. Gyatso said that the department is initiating a step forward for the management and preservation of culture and heritage of the state. He said that such seminars are important as they provide platform for experts in the respective field to come together and discuss, share and exchange their expertise. He also congratulated the department for organizing such seminar for the first time in the state. He informed that the heritage conservation project will benefit the people economically, culturally and environmentally and provide wide array of tourism opportunities.
Mr. D.R. Kharel, Secretary (CA&HD) delivering the welcome speech, briefed the gathering about the initiative being taken by the department for the protection and conservation of Culture and Heritage sites in the State. He further informed that the State government is formulating a concrete strategy to provide various aspects of preservation of heritage all around the state which could help to uplift the Heritage tourism in coordination with the scheme of village tourism in the state.
The inaugural function concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Mr. P.N. Tamang, Special Secretary (CA&HD).
The day long seminar was also attended by Mr. Sanu Lama, President Sikkim Sahitya Academy, Mr. H.K Karki, Secretary, Sports and Youth Affair, Special Secretaries of various department, Architects, Research Scholars, Resource persons, Members of various organizations and officers and staff of CA&HD.
