Companies present proposals for tourism development programmes


GANGTOK, March 6: Four private companies today presented proposals for various tourism development programmes planned in Sikkim as part of the State’s initiative to make Sikkim a world class tourist destination.

During a meeting chaired by State Tourism Minister Bhim Dhungel along with Dentam MLA and attended by officers of the department and consultants today, the Conveyor and Ropeway Services of Kolkata made a presentation on Tsomgo Ropeway in East District. Presentation on Tenzing Hillary Park in West District was also made by Archtech Ltd of Kolkata followed by presentation of feasibility report study to be undertaken at Bhaleydhunga by M/S Virendra Khanna & Associates of New Delhi and on IT mobile information technology by M/S Tech Chilly Consultants from Bangalore.
A detailed review of the progress of Ropeway at Namchi with officials of Damodar Ropeways was also conducted.

These projects, it is informed have been aimed at making Sikkim a world class tourist destination. The State Government has also been working on development of already existing infrastructure as well as new destinations.

“Areas which are unexplored and having a vast tourism potential are being identified and developed which will in the long run provide sustainable economic growth. While developing the areas the department has given stress on environmental protection and the local traditions and culture are being given utmost importance,” state tourism secretary SBS Bhadauria said in a press release issued today. He added that capacity building programmes conducted by the department have created a skilled manpower which enables them for self sustenance and self employment in these areas. “Each area of Sikkim offers unique culture and tradition with a landscape having their own identity. Development of these areas, while keeping the unique architecture intact, will give Sikkim a distinct image, the secretary said.
